MIDWEST GRAND CHALLENGE RESULTS

Midwest Grand Challenge had an action packed day in Jenison Fieldhouse on the campus of Michigan State on Saturday, May 22nd.  Team MYWA was able to double up with their elementary and middle school teams walking away with the team titles in their respective divisions.  In the High School Division, the Mat Sharks WC out of Ohio was able to put together two exciting come from behind victories in the semi-finals and championship bout. 

In the semi-finals, the Mat Sharks were taking on Michigan Xtreme Black as they trailed 21-16 after Jordan Thomas from Xtreme (Michigan state champ) defeated Nick McCall (Ohio state placer) 5-3.  The Mat Sharks 194 lb wrestler Michael Pollard got an an unexpected fall to put the Sharks up 22-21 with two bout remaining.   Then Drake Renas from Xtreme was able to pull out a 3-0 win at 220 lbs over Zane Krall to put Xtreme up 24-22 with only the heavyweights left.  In the finally, Collin Teff from Xtreme was in on a deep double leg on Ohio State recruit Max Gladstone.  Teff was just about to finish the double when the more lengthy Gladstone was able to step over when he hit the mat and put Teff onto his back.  Gladstone was then able to secure the fall and send the Mat Sharks into the finals against Rampage Red out of Michigan.

The championship finals did not disappoint as it was a thrilling come from behind victory! Rampage Red led 25-6 after the 145 pound match.  The Mat Sharks were able to reel off 7 straight matches and win the championships 30-25.
